Chavez, Benito "Benny" A. 
Age 87, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Socorro, NM. He was born in Lemitar, NM on March 5, 1931, to Pablo and Josefita (Padilla) Chavez. Benito was a lifelong resident of Lemitar. He attended Socorro High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 35 years before retiring  April 25, 1986. Benito was also the Fire Chief for 14 years at the Midway Fire Dept. He loved riding his motorcycle, playing pool and going to the casino. He enjoyed visiting with everyone and no one was a stranger to him.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arthur and Robert Chavez; sisters, Gertrude Slonecker and Francis Hidalgo; and his sons, Juan Benito and Paul Anthony Chavez. Benito is survived by wife of 67 years, Atochita (Mary) Chavez; his son, Albin Chavez and wife, Debby; daughters, Rita Moore and husband, Pete, Loudell Campos and husband, Victor, Veronica Saavedra and husband, Henry; grandchildren, Anthony, Rosemary, Benji, Valerie, Jonathon, Esperanza, Julian, Marco, Stephanie, Joseph, Pedro, Matthew, Abigail, James and Kathryn; nine great grandchildren; his sisters, Andrea McIntire of Holiday, FL, Helen Phillips of Houston, TX, and Marylou Reales of Yukon, OK.                               Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 10:00 am at La Sagrada Familia Church in Lemitar, NM.  Celebrant Rev.
