Celia O. Sandoval

June 3, 1918 — March 12, 2020

Celia O. Sandoval passed away on March 12, 2020 at the age of 101.  She was born June 1918 in Chacon, New Mexico to the late Juan and Nieves Ortega.  A loving wife and mother, Celia was a remarkable homemaker.  Her many talents included knitting, crocheting, and quilting.  Her projects were works of beauty.  For visitors, she always had a hot meal regardless of the time of day.  She took pride in her community and volunteered throughout her lifetime.  Celia enjoyed the adventure of travel and was always a willing rider regardless of destination.  She was active in various community service organizations and was elected to serve in a number of officiating positions.

She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph G. Sandoval, on June 6, 1938 in Las Vegas, New Mexico where the couple made their home for 62 years.  Following her husband's death in 2000, she moved to Albuquerque.  She did volunteer work at Presbyterian Hospital for 13 years, was an active member of the Military Widows organization and actively participated at a local gym until the age of 95.

Celia was exceedingly proud of her family and emphasized family unity.  She was known for her great kindness - something she had learned from her father during the Great Depression.  Family and friends were Celia's delight and she took every opportunity to entertain and socialize.  She had a great ear for listening, demonstrating trust and wisdom.  She is the last surviving sibling of ten brothers and sisters.

Her 100 years afforded her the opportunity to be a time-traveler; going from horse and buggy years to space travel and advanced technology.  Her family extends their warmest gratitude to the staff at Tres Hermanas where Celia has lived the past three years.

She is survived by four sons: Robert (Nancy) of Murrieta, CA, David (Connie) of Gilbert, AZ, Joseph (Becky) of Albuquerque, NM, Paul of Halfway, OR; and one daughter, Celine (Tom) of San Antonio, TX; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.

A private service and burial will be held at a later date.  To view information or leave a condolence please visit www.danielsfuneral.com
