Dorris M. Lewis
Dorris M. Lewis - age 89, passed away to be with the Lord, May 31, 2020 at Genesis HealthCare, Bear Canyon Rehabilitation Center, with family members at her side. She was born July 28, 1930, in Italy, Texas. A resident of Albuquerque, for over 60 years, a city she loved dearly, She was preceded in death by her parents Mother Margaret (Eddie) Richardson, Father Edgar (Essie) Lewis and Son Sgt. Johnny Lewis, Sister Edna Hadley, Brother Kenneth Lewis, Ruben and Vernon Owens, Edgar Jr. and Norvell Lewis. Survived by Sons The Honorable James B. and Ernest Lewis, Daughters Debra Lewis and Jacqueline Mahan; Sisters Jean Nolan, Theresa (Maurice) Edwards, Margaret Hill; Sisters Melba Jo Johnson, Manina Brown and Brother Barry (Arether) Lewis, of Dallas, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Before moving to Albuquerque form Roswell in the 50's she worked with her mother, leaning Officers Quarters at Walker Air Force Base. In Roswell she served the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Over the past twenty plus years she was a certified caregiver, a certification that she was very proud of. As a care giver, she thrived for excellence, and provided care to many, many individuals. One of her favorite clients that she cared for, was Mr. Taylor and his family, whom Taylor Ranch Community is named after; The Brown family also in Taylor Ranch; A Special, Special individual that she cared for was Lee Ward until the Lord Called him home. Many of her client required 24/7 care, that she continued to provide until her middle 80's. She always enjoyed attending Gods House Church, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, with her daughters. In addition, she was an entrepreneur, primarily in the restaurant business, in Albuquerque and Gallup. She was a great cook, worked puzzles and loved to go out to eat at Sandia Casino and loved eating ribs at Golden Pride.
The Family would like to thank all the Personnel at Genesis Healthcare-Bear Canyon Rehabilitation Center, for their care and Dr. Phillips her Primary Doctor before going to Genesis, for the excellent care, that she provided for her over the years. In addition, special thanks to her neighbors, family and friends for caring and sharing their Love. Special Thanks to Rev. M.D. Smith and Bishop Michael Shelby.
Viewing will be held on June 8th, 2020 at 6pm to 8pm.
