Elinor Marie Dubbs Dahl Newman passed away peacefully at her home in Rio Rancho, NM on July 28, 2016 with her daughter, Evonne and nurse, Karen, in attendance.
She was born to James Dubbs and Maria Zoronovich Dubbs on February 2nd, 1927 in Medford, Oregon. Elinor grew up in various cities in California, settling in the San Diego area where she married James Dahl at the age of 18. After 22 years of marriage and 4 children, they divorced and 9 years later Elinor married Harry Newman, to whom she was married for 35 years before his death in 2012. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Larry Dubbs as well as James Dahl and Harry Newman.
Elinor is survived by her brother, Jim Dubbs of Jersey City, New Jersey and sister, Marlene Sterling of La Mesa, California; children: Eric Dahl of Rainbow, CA, Evonne Holder and husband Robert of Rio Rancho N.M., Leif Dahl and wife, Marybeth of Adamstown, MD, and Annette Dahl of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren: Michele Lopez, Tiffany Moore, John Holder, Chris Dahl, Sarah Orton and Katelyn Dahl; her great-grandchildren; Rachelle Lopez, Caitlyn Moore, Alexandria, Moore, Carolyn Holder, William Holder, Margaret Orton and Alyssa Orton and her great-great granddaughter Alani Kozar.
Elinor had a love of gardening, birds, politics, tennis, golf and scuba diving. She faithfully attended church when able, and studied her Bible. She loved San Diego, Las Vegas and Rio Rancho and liked having family nearby. She was devoted to all of her family and was grateful for their visits, phone calls, gifts and photographs.
Her Memorial service will be at Rio Rancho United Methodist Church on August 20th at 2:00 PM. Her ashes will be scattered in her beloved Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.
