Melvin Miller Towner, born January 16th 1944 passed away to Heaven side on December 5th 2019. Melvin was born to Earl and Louise Towner of Fence Lake New Mexico. Raised on the family ranch, Melvin was one of six children that included: Francis Brannon Beevers (deceased), Marlene Horton from Rouge River Oregon, Herman Towner from Fence Lake New Mexico (deceased), Sammy Odell Jones of Grant Pass Oregon and Fence Lake NM, and Tommy Towner from Quemado New Mexico. Married to Terry Towner for 47 years, Melvin leaves behind three children including Shannon Towner, Robin Bolin, and Rachel Fry, as well as his two son in laws Michael Bolin and Kodie Fry. He is survived by five grandchildren as well including Clay Russell Towner, Charles Orin Baker, Cooper “Tig” Baker, Maddie Jane Adams, and Tillie Joy Fry. Melvin served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968, and was honorably discharged from duty. He then went into business with his brother Tommy as a mechanic in Gallup, New Mexico. He subsequently met his wife Terry, and in 1969 they were married. They then settled in Alaska and had their two oldest children Shannon and Robin. During that same time period Melvin worked for Anchorage Cold Storage and later on the Alaskan Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay. On a trip in 1975 Melvin moved his family and bought a farm near San Antonio New Mexico. Working alongside his father Earl, Melvin worked very hard as a farmer and for the Towner Seed Company. A third child Rachel was added to the family in 1981 after which, Melvin bought the Flying V Ranch in Datil New Mexico in 1993. From that point on, Melvin and his family very much enjoyed raising cattle. All of his life Melvin worked tirelessly as a farmer, rancher, business owner and father. Melvin Towner was a good and honorable man who loved his family, church, and community. He loved to tell everyone that he met about Gods eternal glory for their lives. He will be missed and not forgotten in our hearts. Services for Melvin will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Socorro Baptist Church, 1301 Fairgrounds Road, Socorro, New Mexico.
