Rachel Saavedra, age 100, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 surrounded by her devoted family at her home in Luis Lopez, NM.  She was born June 9, 1919 in Socorro, NM to Higinio and Mercedes (Ware) Montoya. She was raised on her family farm in Luis Lopez, NM. She always reminded everyone how she “walked both ways up hill in the snow to school”. She was an active member of San Miguel Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and was known as “La Reina”. She is proceeded in death by her Husband, Teodoro Saavedra; Son, Gene Saavedra; her parents, Higinio and Mercedes, as well as her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons: Teddy (Wife, Terri) and Joe (Wife, Betty); Daughter In-Law: Jean (Wife of the late Gene) ; Grandchildren include: Miguel (Fiance’, Olivia), Charles, Andrianna, Nicole (Husband, Frank), Kyra (Partner, Carl), Taylor (Partner, Vicente), Melissa (Partner, Chris), Kiko (Partner, Melanie), Victoria (Fiance’, Josh) Great-grandchildren are: Lucas, Marcel, Brandon, John, Kailey, Frank, Sadie, Carlos, Patrick, Chris, Cenyon, Cruz, Cennedy, Brooklyn, Madyson, Kiko, Jayveon, and Zaryah. Rosary to be recited on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 7:00 pm at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro, New Mexico. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 9:00 am the San Miguel Church with father John Anasiudu presiding.  Burial will take place at Luis Lopez Cemetery following service. Pallbearers will be Charles Saavedra, Miguel Saavedra, Carlos Zamora, John Bunning, Taylor Saavedra, Andriana Saavedra.  Honorary pallbearers are Nicole Bunning, Kyra Saavedra.
