Sally M. Dyer

April 15, 1925 — February 26, 2016

Sally M. Dyer, age 90, died in her home Friday, February 26, 2016. She was born April 15,
1925, in Ambridge, PA, one of 12 children born to Ignatius and Mary Grzybowski. Sally, along
with most of her family, moved to the Pasadena, CA, area in the mid-1940s, where she met and married Richard W. Dyer in 1947.

In 1949 Richard and Sally moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she has lived since then.Sally was employed as a payroll administrator with Sandia National Laboratories for 32 years, retiring in 1989 to become a full-time caretaker for Richard, who died from Parkinson’s disease in 1991. In addition to Richard, Sally was predeceased by her parents and 10 siblings, as well as her step-son, James A. Dyer, who left this world way too soon, dying from a brain tumor in 1980.

She is survived by one brother, Stanislav Grzybowski and wife Eleanor of Ambridge, PA; son David R. Dyer and wife Susan of Los Lunas, NM; and daughters Rebecca Grissom and husband Tom, and Deborah Eggleton and husband Paul, both from Albuquerque, NM. Six grandchildren survive Sally: Brian Dyer, Stacey Dyer (parents James and Phyllis); Jessica Dyer, Ryan Dyer (parents David and Linda); Silas Eggleton, and Seth Eggleton (parents Paul and Debby). In addition, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren and two daughters-in-law, Linda Dyer and Phyllis Dyer.

Sally was a faithful servant of the Lord. She gave of herself unconditionally as a loving, supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught us how to love and how to give. Her steadfast devotion to her family and her home will be remembered always. Even though Sally never smoked, only occasionally enjoyed a glass of wine while out to dinner, and exercised daily, also keeping her mind strong with reading and daily crossword and word puzzles, she suffered the last ten years of her life from the devastating effects of osteoporosis and dementia, going from a totally independent, strong-willed lady, to requiring 24/7 in-home care. She and her family were blessed with amazing in-home caretakers, allowing Sally to live comfortably and well-cared for in her home until the end.

Heart-felt gratitude is hardly enough to thank these devoted and compassionate ladies: Fawziya, Anisa, Faiza, Nazan, Samya, Salma (all related!), Marsha, Esther, Linda, and Patricia. Also caring for Sally the past year were the devoted and compassionate staff from Heritage Hospice. Thank you nurses Karen, Wendy, and Martha; chaplain Jaimie; home health aide Kat, and social worker Pam.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 10:30 AM, at First Christian Church, 10101 Montgomery Blvd NE, with Associate Minister Tim Neuenschwander officiating.

If anyone so desires, donations in Sally’s name may be made to Special Olympics New Mexico, on line at www.sonm.org or by mail to 6600 Palomas NE, Suite 207, Albuquerque, NM, 87109.
