Abelino Chavez

August 14, 1925 — October 17, 2016

Chavez, Abelino
Age, 91 passed away, peacefully at home in Rio Rancho, NM on October 17, 2016. Abelino was born August 14, 1925 to Alejandro & Solema Chavez. He is survived by a sister, Irene Moya and a brother, Johnny Chavez.  Abelino led a full life and is survived by his wife, Margaret Chavez recently celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary. Together they had four children, Gertrude Martinez, Rosalie Chavez, Debbie Chavez and Danny Chavez.  Six grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Mr. Chavez worked 25 years for the City of Springerville AZ and later worked as a custodian at Round Valley High School.  Years after retirement, Mr. & Mrs. Chavez moved to New Mexico to be closer to family where he spent quality time celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms,1st communions, Matanzas’s and graduations. Mr. & Mrs. Chavez loved traveling and enjoying all the wonderful food New Mexico has to offer.

For those who knew and loved Abelino, they will always remember that this man was a reflection of the Love and Humility of the LORD.  He was a true servant of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He loved the LORD  above all things and loved his  neighbor. He was a parishner of St. Peters parish in Springerville AZ and attended Our Lady of Annunciation in Albuquerque for 5 years before moving to Rio Rancho where he attended mass every Sunday at St. Thomas Aquinas. Abelino was a hardworking man who among other things built a home for his family from the ground up. He was always ready, willing and able to help his neighbor with whatever they needed.  He was a quiet, gentle man with a great sense of humor & admirable work ethic. He never complained or talked badly about anyone. Even during his last years, he accepted his suffering without complaint as the WILL OF THE LORD. With words that defined his faith and his life, he would say what we will always remember, “Nomas Dios Sabe”…It’s true. Only GOD knows what our mission in life is and when it has been accomplished. We find consolation in the fact that our LORD JESUS CHRIST has received Abelino saying to him, “Well done my Good and Faithful Servant”. He will be greatly missed, living forever in our hearts.
