MARQUEZ- Albert (Al) Dennis Marquez, 66, passed away on April 17, 2011. Albert was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, May 12, 1944 to José Márquez Jr. and Corine Montoya Garcia y Márquez. Albert is a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute and earned his bachelors degree in Business with an accounting major at Fort Lewis College in Colorado. He served in the Army during the Viet Nam conflict. Albert worked for New Mexico Tax and Revenue and retired from the City of Alburquerque’s Purchasing Department. Albert loved to read, swim, run with his dog Taylor, ski, sail surf, tango and garden. He is survived by his mother, Corine Marquez; sisters, Dolores Marquez, Conchita Lucero (John); son, Albert J. Marquez (Laura) and daughter, Brandee Dixon (Keith); five grandchildren, Dennis, Joseph and Walker Márquez of Bloomfield, NM; Harlee and Samuel Dixon, of Kingman, Arizona. Former wives’ and friends Kathleen Fontello and Kathy Bretz. His great-grandfathers were among the original families who applied for the Anton Chico and Pecos Land Grants. He worked with his father don José Márquez Jr. learning cattle ranching and a love for the land. The families are descendents of Captain Gerónimo Márquez and Captin Alonzo Garcia de Noriega who were among the First Spanish families that came with don Juan de Oñate in 1598 to settle Nueva España. Alonzo Garcia de Noriega II was Lt. Governor under Otermin during the 1680 San Lorenzo Massacre (Pueblo Revolt) saving the settlers in the Rio Abajo. Albert’s DNA has linked him with the Cohanite ancestry (Cohen priestly) markers. Albert was a 13 year multiple myeloma (bone) cancer survivor who worked hard to understand the health benefits of the Lords herbs and organic foods. Mass will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 10:30a.m..
