Alice Brooks

Brooks, Alice went home to be with Our Heavenly Father on June 4, 2014. She was ready to embrace the Lord and reunite with those that preceded her in death: her husband, Vinner Brooks, Sr., her parents, Ellis and Jessie McKenzie-Hutchinson, her brothers, JW and William, and her sister, Ruth. She was born August 24, 1928 in Tulsa, OK to Ellis and Jessie Hutchinson who were entrepreneurs in the syrup and sugar cane industry. She was the youngest of four siblings from this union. Alice graduated Green Bay High School in Tucker, TX; she also attended Prairie View College. Alice was united in marriage to Vinner Brooks, Sr. in South Haven, OK where he was owner of a popular cafe. After their first child was born they made their home in Albuquerque, NM. Alice worked for the Department of Labor for 28 years before retiring. She enjoyed embroidery, canning fruits and vegetables, playing the piano and singing gospel songs. Alice was a very good cook and will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving, forgiving, kindhearted and caring person, who often put others ahead of herself. Alice received Christ as her personal savior at a very early age at Green Bay Church in Texas. Alice was a member of New Life Baptist Church and deeply trusted the Lord. Left behind to cherish fond memories are her sons, Vinner (Ann), Harold (Martine), John (Betty), Jesse (Opal), Rohn and Aaron; daughters, Mamie, Vernell, Gloria, Diane (Ernest), and Vivian, all of Albuquerque; one sister, Shirley; one brother, Ellis, Jr.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Strong-Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 9, 2014 at New Life Baptist Church, 6900 Los Volcanes Rd NW, Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Albuquerque.
