Allen Beford, 54, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday evening, March 21, 2010 after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born in Midland, Texas on June 18, 1955, graduated from Farmington High School in 1973 and attended the University of Oklahoma. Allen found success in a variety of occupations. In the Farmington area, he was active in the car business as well as insurance and real estate sales. Allen was a natural salesman; he was talented, intelligent and compassionate. He understood human nature and was able to connect with almost anyone when given the opportunity. Allen was most proud of his work as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation counselor. In Wickenburg , Arizona he worked at The Meadows, a first rate clinic where he helped many to pick up the pieces of their broken lives. He carried this work into private practice in the Phoenix area and later administered a state program in Show Low, Arizona . Allen was real, authentic and transparent. These qualities helped him relate to others and meet them at their point of need. Throughout his life Allen made many close friends. He cherished and valued these friends and was never shy showing his love and appreciation for them. He enjoyed nothing more than the company of family and friends, smiling and laughing. He was an avid skier and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Allen had a great sense of humor, making it a pleasure to be in his company. He will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him. Allen was preceded in death by his father Larry Allen Bedford, Sr. in 1997. He is survived by his mother Royce Bedford-Ice and husband Don of Farmington; his sons Jeremy and Luke Bedford of Farmington; his daughter Shannon of Sterling, Colorado; his granddaughters Karley, Brittany and Lindsay also of Sterling; his brother Clay and wife Lori of Chehalis, Washington, brother Brad and wife Michelle of Farmington; nieces and nephews Alyssa and Zachary Bedford and Tyler, Nolan and Noel Bedford; and the mother of his sons Vickie Bedford of Farmington and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, Allen’s family suggests that donations in Allen’s memory be sent to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. , Farmington , NM 87401 for a trust fund to be set-up for his sons Jeremy and Luke Bedford.
