Alma Palmer Ivie

Alma Palmer Ivie (88) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Life Care Center on Thursday April 23, 2009. She is survived by her son, Dennis Ivie and his wife, Melody, daughter, Kay Moore and husband Mike and daughter-in-law Kathy Ivie. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Also surviving Alma are her sisters Regina Palmer, Ruth May (Earl) Barnett, Charlotte Leahy, Nora (Ron) Boice, Lillian ( Gary ) Brady , Venda Cavender and Blance Sego. Surviving brothers are Charles (Irene) Palmer, Perry (Darlene) Palmer, Clarence (Shirley) Adair, Ivin (Elma) Palmer, Bruce (Kathy) Sterling and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Ivie, her two sons, Ronald and Michael, her parents and stepmother, Ruth Gardner-Adair-Palmer, her sister Madge Gabehart and her brothers, Dale, Elmo, Lyle, Jack , Leon , and Jimmy Palmer. Alma was born to Alma James and Mable Biggs Palmer on July 19, 1920 in Kirtland , NM , in 1940 she married Harry L. Ivie. During WWII they moved to San Francisco for several years while Harry worked in the ship yards and returned to Farmington after the war. Alma retired from JC Penny's after 25 years of service and was actively involved in the LDS Church . She and Harry are fondly remembered by many for their service in the youth dance program. Alma and Harry served a mission for the church at the Denver, CO. temple as temple workers and made lifetime friendships with the members they worked with. She felt it was one of the happiest times of her life. Alma 's hobbies were quilting and Rook card playing. She made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered by many for her generosity, her hard work and her strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Arrangements are with Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. Farmington . (505) 325-8688
