Kerby, Alney Lee Age 88, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM after complications from congestive heart failure. He was born in Ranger, TX on November 12, 1925, to Alney B. and Bonnie (Anisworth) Kerby. Al was a Marine rifleman and truck driver and served in World War II in the Pacific and saw action at Guadacanal and Pelilieu. He also served at the US Embassy in Peking, China before returning to New Mexico and his wife Zanola and son Richard. He learned cabinet making in Socorro and went from there to general carpentry and later to work at White Sands Missile Range and New Mexico Tech where he supervised crews who worked at the Terra Project. Al's main hobby was deer hunting and ammunition reloading. Much to his family's surprise, he was a avid square dancing enthusiast and went on to call at square dances at several places in New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife Zanola; his parents; his older brother, Ray and younger brother, Billy. Al is survived by sons, Richard Kerby and family of Woodinville, WA, and Raymond Kerby and family of Prenton, FL; sister Etta Pearl Snyder of Canyon City, CO; and many nieces and nephews in Eastern New Mexico.
