Alonzo (Al) Chavez 91, passed away peacefully Friday January 17, 2025.
He was born November 16, 1933 to Willie and Ageda Chavez in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico.
While attending Albuquerque High School he enlisted in the US Navy, served during the Korean war. After his tour with the Navy, he came home 67 years ago, and applied at Southwest Distributing Co., was hired and worked all departments. “I was motivated every day by what I had learned over the years. Eventually I moved over to sales, making a plan for the day (pre-plan) always introducing new products and selling in displays. The greatest impact of my life is taking care of my family: my wife, three daughters, eight grandchildren and great grandchildren.” Alonzo was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 69.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; daughters, Vivienne VanLandingham, Valerie Lovato and Victoria Chavez (Chris); grandchildren, Christopher Lovato (Mike), Andrea Rael (Sebastian), Amanda Montano, Mattalin Baca (Barney), Rachael Montano (Archie), Andrew Folsom (Marisa), Austin VanLandingham (Dayna), Noah Folsom; great-Grandchildren, Lucas, Zoey, Stetson, Raylon, Isabella, Dryfter, Logan, Gypsy, Barney.
Services will begin with Recitation of the Rosary, Friday, February 7, 2025, 8:00 AM, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. Burial will take place Monday, February 10, 2025, 1:00 PM, Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501.
