12/6/1919 - 9/12/2015 A.D., or “Turk” Turquette, 95, passed away on Saturday (9/12).  His wife of 68 years preceded his death by 46 days. A geologist with a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, he joined the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor, and rose to the rank of Lt. Cmdr.  During WWII Turk served as an intelligence officer on various staffs teaching aerial photography interpretation and helped in the planning of D-Day, specifically Utah Beach, the invasion of southern France, Luzon in the Philippines and Okinawa.  He spent most of his geology career in Denver, CO where he and his wife, Marilu, also owned and managed the Book House in Littleton CO.  After moving to Albuquerque in the 80’s he worked for Bowlin’s and managed The Flying C Ranch outside of Santa Rosa, and again as a geologist in Albuquerque for Harvey Yates Petroleum before retiring.  Turk loved astronomy and painting with oils and watercolors.  He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, LuLin and Robert Simpson from Rio Rancho and his grandsons, Troy and Ty Simpson from Denver; his son, James Turquette, daughter-in-law, Phyllis, from Las Cruces and their sons, James Turquette, Las Cruces, and Jason Kaplan, wife, Kim, and daughters,  Meaghan and Bryttany, Parker CO.  Military honors will be held at the Rio Rancho Veteran’s Memorial and a celebration for both Turk and Marilu’s lives will be held at a future date.
