Alvis A. B. Swanson

SWANSON -- Alvis A. B. Swanson, 88, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on January 3, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque. Mr. Swanson was born on April 19, 1920 to Arthur and Bessie (Holley) Swanson of Pontotoc, MS. Mr. Swanson served our country in the U.S. Army from November 1941 until his Honorable Discharge in September of 1945. In the Army he began his career in the 99th Chemical Mortar Battalion. He was also a truck driver specialist and rifle sharp shooter. During his military career, Mr. Swanson earned the EAME Service Ribbon, three Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He married his sweetheart, Flora McGee, on December 25, 1945. This past Christmas, they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. They had three children, A.B. Swanson, Gloria Ann Swanson, and Ted Wayne Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a farmer and truck driver and his sons maintain the ranch today. He was an avid hunter. Above all, he developed a close and personal relationship with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Avalon Church of Christ. Mr. Swanson is preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Swanson, in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Flora Swanson, of Albuquerque, NM; sons, A.B. Swanson and Ted Wayne Swanson, both of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren. Bradley Dean, Kenneth DeWees, and Shadhan Catherine Ann Swanson; great-grandchildren, Jordan Jaramillo, Aiden Bradley Kenneth Wayne Swanson; siblings, Lottie Pearl Renfro, Dottie Pearl Dotson, and Harrison Swanson. Pallbearers will be Richard Esquivel, Ben Cherry, Joel McGee, Kenny Gabaldon, Stephen Barreras, and Danny Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Robert Hall, Joe Moseley, Harry Chambers, Paul Eimer, and William Horton.
