Garcia, Amalia Zamora Age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011. She was born in Magdalena, NM on March 20, 1926, to Maria de la luz Zamora and Mariano Garcia. Amalia entered the U. S. Army in 1951, retiring in 1971 as a SGT 1st class. She worked as a medical nurse in the Woman's Army Corp during the Korean Conflict, obtaining a number of awards and medals for many achievements. Amalia traveled to Belgium, Germany, France, S. E. Asia and most of the United States, including Alaska. Amalia was a completely remarkable woman, making the act of taking care of people an absolute art, always seeing the good in others. She was smart, content and enjoyed life until her last days. Amalia was profoundly giving, caring, selfless, kind, modest and tough! Her genuine, gentle demeanor made her easy to love, which made others consider her as another aunt, mom and grandma. Amalia lived an amazing full life and all her family and friends are proud to have known her and will miss her dearly, keeping her in their hearts forever. Amalia is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her remaining sisters; Aurora Garcia, Maria Garcia and Isabel Arevellos. Nieces and nephews of which she raised; Belinda Marrujo and her husband Mark and son Isaac, Pascual and his fiance, Vanessa Sandoval and children, Marian, Myra and Phillip. The family of Amalia would like to thank all the medical professionals at UNM Senior Center, especially Dr. Carla Herman, the UNM Cancer Center especially Dr.Thomas Downs and everyone at the UNM Medical ICU unit who attended to her in her final hours. Each and everyone of you cared for her well being and genuinely wanted her in good health. Our entire family appreciates everything you did. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Daniels Family Funeral Service Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield Street, Socorro, NM. On Wednesday, December 21, 2011 a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real St., NW, Socorro, NM with interment to follow at Magdalena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Octavio Alcantar, Mark Marrujo, Pascual Alcantar, Cruz Barreras, Richard Garcia and Bobby Garduno.
