Amarante "Sam" Sanchez

May 27, 1937 — November 2, 2013

Sanchez, Amarante "Sam" Age 76, beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, was embraced by the Lord, Saturday, November 2, 2013. He was a resident of Albuquerque, NM. Sam attended Northern New Mexico Schools in El Rito, NM where he made many life long friends. After high school, Sam joined the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired 1972. He returned to Albuquerque and started up his business as "Sam the Sign Man". Sam was a lifetime member of the Old Town Optimist Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melecio and Julia Sanchez; brothers, Leo Sanchez and Andy Salas; and his aunt, Teresa Sanchez. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Esperanza Sanchez; his children, Julia, Carlos, Felix, Virginia, Ramon and Valerie; several grandchildren; brothers, Mel, Jr. and Raymond Sanchez; and his sister, Catalina Rodarte; brother-in-law, Edward De La Calle and wife Maria Asuncion; seven other in-laws; nieces and nephews of Spain; and many other relatives and friends. Sam will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. Visitations will be Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, 9420 Fourth St NW, Albuquerque and again from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Friday, November 8, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Daniels - Alameda Mortuary. Service of Christian Burial will be Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth Street NW. Interment will be Monday, November 11, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Joe Zamora, Aaron Sanchez, Brian Salas and Larry Romero. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in the Nephrology Department at the VA Hospital.
