Andrew Filkins

Andrew “Andy” Stephen FIlkins, age 60, a resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away suddenly and peacefully on April 25, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1964 in Milwaukee, WI 

 Andy had a passion for airplanes and worked at Palwaukee Airport  for many years after graduating from Main South High School in Park Ridge, IL, Class of 1982. He also worked for various cities and utility companies during his career.  He joined Cobb Fendley & Associates in January 2011 and moved his family to New Mexico where he was a SUE Field Technician for over 12 years and recently moved to the TelComm division.  Andy was the first employee at the Mountain West Region Albuquerque office and was truly a member of the family there.

Andy was an incredibly hardworking man who was willing to sacrifice anything for his family. He was a novice vaper who was fascinated by new smoking technology. Andy always reminded his daughters to drive safely and to remember the phrase “safety by choice, not by chance.” He loved sampling seasonal Starbucks drinks, but he would never admit it. Andy was a true gem in the amateur meteorology community and looked forward to his favorite Christmas gifts each year: mixed nuts, Hickory Farm sausage, and a pair of New Balance sneakers. Andy’s hobbies included watching golf, rooting for the Bears, enjoying beer and cigarettes, solving crossword puzzles, monitoring the weather, and reading Ray Bradbury novels. 

A Celebration of LIfe Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 10th from 4:00-6:00 PM at Daniels Funeral Home, 4310 Sara Road, SE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the GoFundMe organized by Jordyn FIlkins Siltala to help with service costs.
