Angela A Naranjo

NARANJO - Angela A. Naranjo, 84, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM surrounded by her loving family. Angela was born on May 6, 1926 in San Pedro, NM to Abel and Angela (Salgado) Arvizu. She is survived by her devoted children, Delfina Sherman; Jessie Calderwood and husband, Thayne; Santiago Naranjo Jr.; Selfa Lucero and husband, Willie; ten grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one sister, Maria Padilla; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Angela witnessed the testing of the first atomic bomb from her childhood ranch home in San Pedro, NM during 1945. Angela was a lifelong resident of Socorro but briefly resided in Long Beach, CA during WWII, while employed by Douglas Aircraft as a member of the “Rosie the Riveter” workforce. Angela began her nursing career at the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium (TB Sans) formally located north of Socorro where she first met her husband. She was also instrumental in the opening of Socorro General Hospital in 1956. She faithfully served and touched numerous lives. Throughout her nursing career Angela dedicated over 30 years of service. She was also a proud member of the National Guard Ladies Auxiliary. Angela was a devout member of San Miguel Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; six sisters and her loving and caring husband, Santiago Naranjo Sr. A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services Socorro Chapel. A Rosary will be recited also on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Naranjo, Willie M. Lucero, Edward Lucero, Santiago Naranjo III, Ramon D. Rivera, and Alfred Lucero. Alternate Pallbearer is Anthony Romero.
