Anna Maria Garcia

Garcia, Anna Maria (Lujan) Age 76, passed on Friday, August 30, 2013 at her home. Anna is now at peace after a long illness. She was born in Tierra Amarilla, NM, July 26, 1937, and moved to Albuquerque with her family when she was five years old. She attended San Felipe Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary�s Catholic High School in 1955. She was married to Benny in 1959 and they recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. Anna had a tremendous spirit for life and while raising her family, and was involved in many community service activities ranging from PTA officer to catechism teacher, as well as being involved in school reading programs and girl scout volunteer projects. She later worked for the University of New Mexico at the Johnson Center. Anna retired and then assisted her family with raising grandchildren. She had a yearning for life, and though was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, she fought and beat many odds in her battle. She was a strong and beautiful woman and a genuine role model to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony T. Garcia. Anna is survived by her loving husband, Benny M. Garcia; her children, Angela T. (Garcia) Ortiz and her husband Rico I., Alisa M. (Garcia) Valdez and her husband Dennis B. Valdez, Andrew B. Garcia and his wife Juanita; grandchildren, Francisco, Cassandra, Jonathan, Miquela, Eric, Marisa, Isaac, Alicia, Isabella, and Andres; great grandchild, Nathan; and a close-knit extended family. She will be greatly missed by her family and by those whose hearts she touched. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. also at the Church.
