Popper, Anton R. Age 84, passed away peacefully in Rio Rancho, NM on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Tony is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Popper; children, Brette (Paul), Clint and Dru (Frank); grandchildren, Jessica Spraos, Rachel Spraos, Morgan Lopez, Perri Lopez. He is also survived by his sister Caryl Cooper of Phoenix, AZ. Tony was a passionate supporter of his community. "Mr. Rio Rancho" created the successful annual event "Sunday Is Funday" and worked diligently to promote the city as it grew, serving as a City Councilor and member of New Mexico's Soil and Water Commission. He also helped establish the Ester Bone Library, Storehouse West, Watermelon Mountain Ranch, Pork and Brew and the new Rio Rancho High School. He was a member of Kiwanis and the Elks Lodge. He even played Santa in the Rio Rancho Christmas Parade. Tony and Norma moved to Rio Rancho 35 years ago after living in Ossining, NY. He had a long career as a sales and marketing executive for Blue Bell, makers of Wrangler Jeans where he managed advertising programs that were awarded 2 CLIOS, the Academy Awards of advertising. Tony was a true patriot and served in the Korean War. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Daniels Family Funeral Services Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment, with military honors to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM.
