Antonio "Tony" Gurule

June 22, 1923 — March 27, 2014

Antonio "Tony" Gurule, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, March 27, 2014. He was born in Pena Blanca, NM and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. Tony was a proud World War II Veteran, who served his country in the United States Navy as a Pharmacists Mate 3rd Class. He was a life member of the VFW Post #4243 in Bernalillo, and a member of the American Legion Post #69 in Alameda. Tony retired from Civil Service; then worked in maintenance for Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, where he was also a member of the Church and head usher. He took great pride in farming all his life. Tony enjoyed spending time in his shed wood working and sharing stories and songs with the family. He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Jose and Francesquita Gurule; four sisters, one brother, and seven brother-in-laws. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lupe (Mirabal) Gurule of the family home; his children, Antoinette Sedillo and husband Ray, Joe Gurule and wife Janie, Cecilia Haynes and husband LeeRoy, Olivia Baldonado and husband Anthony, Loretta Padilla and husband Fidel, Paul Gurule and Kathy Duran; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. Also surviving are his sister, Jane Sandoval; in-laws, Tony and Inez Gabaldon, Mary Gurule, Ramona Mirabal, and Tita Mirabal; numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren and other relatives and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. On behalf of the Gurule family, they wish to express their sincere gratitude to Gentiva Hospice Team for the loving care given to their beloved Tony. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Camino Del Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be Anthony Gurule, Michael Sedillo, Eric Haynes, Jonathon Baldonado, Briana Saiz, and Joseph Gurule. Honorary Bearers will be his grandchildren; great-grandchildren and Godchildren.
