Hardy died Feb. 23, 2011, in Chinle. He was born Oct. 12, 1907, in Blackrock, into the Mescelaro Apache People Clan for the Water Flows Together People Clan. Hardy attended school up to the 9th grade at Fort Apache School. He worked for the railroad, road construction and plowing fields. He received an award for rodeo as a champion saddle bronc rider in the 1930s. His hobbies included doing crossword puzzles, telling stories about his life to his grandchildren and loved bible reading. Survivors include his wife, Eva Bah Hardy; sons, Roger Hardy, Harrison Thomas Hardy, Ray Hardy; daughters, Genevie Hoswoot, Helena Hardy Draper, Eleanore Hardy Thompson, Virginia Hardy; sister, Sarah Bahe; 32 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Hardy was preceded in death by Hosteen Hardy, Bah Hardy; son, George Hardy. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends at Del Muerto Presbyterian Church, following services. The family will meet at 6 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Tse Bonito Mortuary.
