Antonio (Tony) Martinez

“You can shed tears that he is gone.
Or you can smile because he has lived”
(Remember Me ~ David Harkins)

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Antonio Martinez, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

Antonio was affectionately known as Tony, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, brother, uncle and cousin to family and friends.

He was born in Sabino, NM on April 9, 1935 to Nicolas and Ernestina Martinez. He attended school in Roy, NM where he graduated. He volunteered for the U.S. Army and was sent to Alaska for 2 years. He returned to New Mexico and landed in Albuquerque where he met his wife, Eralia. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in June. Tony had a great sense of humor, was very caring, a hard worker and knew no strangers. He raised three sons to manhood and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was so proud of his grandchildren whom he loved as no other grandpa could. He loved being involved in their lives and as each has grown his love grew greater. He lived in the North Valley of over 40 years and helped his neighbors with whatever they needed. He spent many years with his sons and children in the neighborhood in Future Farmers of America. He helped them raise their sheep, cattle and horses. He was an old cowboy who rode bulls when he was young.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Corine, Flora and Margaret; brothers: Celso, Nick, Jesus and Freddie. He is survived by his wife, Eralia; sons: Paul, Michael (Shelly), Patrick (Jessica); grandchildren: Anthony, Angela (Alex Ridley), Chance, Jordan, Sara, Brie; former daughter-in-law, Becky; brothers: Magin and Eddie; sister, Ernestina Garcia; two godsons: Matthew Galfano and Magin Gomez.
