Arlene T. Sokola, born on March 9, 1949, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Arlene was the beloved daughter of Paul Horwhat Sr. and Irene Horwhat. She graduated from Pottsville Area High School in 1965 and pursued higher education at LaSalle College and the Pennsylvania School of Optometry. With a steadfast dedication to her profession, Arlene spent over thirty years as a self-employed optometrist, offering compassionate care and improving the vision of countless individuals in her community.
For three decades, Arlene shared her life with her devoted partner, Bobbie Hubert. Together they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. Arlene also found joy in the natural world, particularly in the company of birds and turtles. Their presence brought her peace and reflected her gentle spirit and deep appreciation for life’s quiet beauty.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Susan Nolan; her brother George Horwhat; and her nephew Christopher Horwhat. She is survived by her partner Bobbie Hubert; her brother Paul Horwhat; her sister Rachel Scott; her stepdaughter Cassie and Randy Gesiakowski; nieces Lisa Grippando, Christine Horwhat, Karen Horwhat, Denise “Cookie” Nolan, and Paula Nolan; and nephew Phillip Horwhat.
A funeral service to honor Arlene’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 29, 2025, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
