Arthur Leon Cochran, 79, of Bloomfield, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed from this life on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. He was born February 9, 1931, in Hill City, Kansas, the oldest of seven children born to Arthur and Lois Cochran. He married Rita Marie Brungardt on August 27, 1951, in Stockton, Kansas. The Cochrans were wheat farmers in Collyer, Kansas, until they moved their family to Aztec in July 1960. Leon worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company for 28 years. He was an avid race fan. He loved to spend his Saturday nights at Aztec Speedway, watching his sons race. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Lois; son, Stephen Leon Cochran; brothers, Gerald and Howard Cochran; and a sister, Verna Lee Loomis. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita; his daughter, Karen (Mike) Brown of Farmington; sons, Allen (Kathy) Cochran of Regina, Bill Cochran of Bloomfield, Arlen (Chris) Cochran of Farmington; sisters, Betty Jo Pennington and Royalyn Erickson; brother, Ronnie Cochran; five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
