Augusta Lina Hedwig Gutierrez
February 11, 1928 – March 3, 2016

Our mother, Gusty came of age in post WWI Germany – a difficult and challenging time for the German people, which left lasting impressions that shaped her character and instilled wonderful qualities: compassion, honesty, loyalty, discipline, frugality, and pride.  Gusty loved to tell stories, she loved dogs – especially German Shepherds, and most of all she loved us – her children – unconditionally.  She was a nurse’s assistant and spent most of her working life at the Old St. Joseph’s Hospital (now Lovelace Medical Center).  Mom was an extremely compassionate caregiver, and was very much appreciated by many of her patients.  During her career, various administrators acknowledged her formally for her dedication to the hospital and to helping people.

Gusty was never reluctant to pickup a penny that crossed her path.  She would recite an old German saying that she learned from her father: Wer den Pfennig nicht ehrt ist des Talers nicht wert, which roughly means whoever does not respect the penny is not worthy of the dollar.  Betty Davis is credited with saying growing old ain’t for sissies.  Gusty was definitely no sissy. Goodbye mom – we will miss you, your laughter, beautiful smile, and twinkly blue eyes.

Augusta Gutierrez was preceded in death by her parents Nanny and Johann Ruppert, Wolfgang Ruppert her only brother, Ralph Gutierrez, her oldest son, Manuel Gutierrez, her stepson, and great grandson Jacob Jr. Gutierrez.  She is survived by her daughter Gabriella, and sons John and Joseph, grandchildren Christopher, Jacob, Jason, and Andrea, great grandchildren Saffron, Pierce, Lilly, and Sonny Daisy, and her nephew Matthias Ruppert.

A reception celebrating her life and memories will be held on Tuesday, March 15th, 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services located at 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE.
