Barbara Ellen (Gray) Carrington

CARRINGTON - BARBARA ELLEN GRAY 97, passed away on June 26, 2011 at Casa De Rosa Assisted Living Center in Albuquerque. She was born on August 16, 1913 in Atchison, KS, the daughter of the Rev. Otis Earl Gray and Lucy Southam Gray. Barbara grew up in Topeka and Wichita, KS. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. Later she received a Master's degree in Education from Hofstra University. Barbara married Ralph Worrell Carrington on September 16, 1944, in Long Island. They were married for 64 years. Barbara was an elementary school teacher in Islip, NY for much of her life. She and Ralph moved to NM in 1980. Barbara loved animals, nature, daisies, scripture, poems, her family, and being an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. She was the glue for her family and will be dearly missed. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Nancy Thompson. Survivors include a son, John Carrington and his partner, Kathy Brooke, of Naples, FL; a daughter, Ellen Scott and her husband, Allan, of Albuquerque; a granddaughter, Sarah Norman and her husband, Patrick, of Lawrence, KS; two great-grandchildren; a niece, Ann Ford, of Decatur GA; and nephews, Allyn Thompson of Long Island; and James Thompson of Princeton, NJ. Barbara's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Casa De Rosa Assisted Living and Hospice of NM for the loving care that was provided to her. A Memorial Service and celebration of Barbara's life will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107, at 11:00 a.m., on August 12, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
