Beatrice (Strauss) Heyman

HEYMAN - Beatrice (Strauss) Heyman of Albuquerque, New Mexico died April 29, 2009 at the age of 98. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she lived in South Orange and Cranbury, New Jersey before moving to New Mexico in 1995. She resided in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho for the past 14 years. Mrs. Heyman was a graduate of South Side High School in Newark, New Jersey and Coleman's business school. She worked for many years as a secretary. She married her dear Irving in 1932. The early part of her marriage was focused on taking care of her husband and two children, Richard and Ralph. As her children grew, she expanded her horizons by contributing to her community as a member of Oheb Shalom Synagogue in South Orange, where she served on the school board and as a vice president of the Miriam Sisterhood. She was a member of the National Woman's League at the Northern New Jersey Branches meetings. After her children married, she was devoted to taking care of dear Irving. After his death in 1985, she moved to Cranbury, New Jersey and was nurtured by her friends and family. She blossomed living on her own by joining a choral group and performing in many plays at Concordia, the senior community in which she lived. She was Board member of the United Council of Jewish Women in Cranbury and volunteered for the Cranbury Office on Aging. In 1995 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she held various offices, including president (1999), and Board Member (1998-2003) of the Montebello Residents Association. Predeceased by her husband, Irving, of 53 years and her son Richard, she is survived by her son Ralph and daughter-in-law Marsha of Albuquerque, four grandchildren, Teri, David, Michael, and Andrew and two nieces, Mary Ann Hamburger and Barbara Marcus. Bea will be dearly missed, but our sadness is a measure of our love, and we will always have the legacy of her wit and wisdom, which we remember as "Bea's rules", a set of guiding principles and practices.
