Eisberg, Bernard Clayton
Age 92, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015. He was born on August 25, 1922 to Isidore and Gussie Eisberg. He attended Thomas Jefferson H.S. in Brooklyn NY. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven CT with an Associates Degree. He served in the Army-Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant for eight years. Bernie also served in WWII and Korea and was a decorated man with American Campaign Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five battle stars, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), World war II Victory Medal and the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque. He served with the headquarters ninth Air Force in Europe for twelve months during combat and occupational phases of operations in that theater. Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle who leaves behind a legacy that will be felt generations to come. He has now joined the greatest love of his life, his wife of sixty three years Madeleine. Bernie met Madeleine the day Paris was liberated at the Rothschild Synagogue in Paris France where they later married on 11/16/1945. After that they moved to Brooklyn and established a wonderful home and started a real estate company that to this day still bears his name. After retirement they relocated to NM to be close to their grandchildren of which they shared many wonderful adventures. He was a world traveler and business entrepreneur who enjoyed golf, skiing, sailing and was a pilot at the age of nineteen who alone flew his Lockheed P38 Lighting across the English Channel at the outset of the D-Day Invasion. To celebrate the Allied Victory as only Bernie would he still remains the only pilot to have flown under the Eiffel Tower. His life was a wonderful tapestry of family love, bravery and wisdom who ever knew him or just spent a few moments with him would come away with a better appreciation of life. Bernie will be sorely missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Madeleine, his son David Eisberg and daughter in law Sharon Eisberg, and his siblings, Rand Eisberg and Ann Heffron. He is survived by his son Dr. George Eisberg and his wife Giovanna of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter Tiffany Zezula and her husband Nate of Ridgefield, CT, granddaughter Melissa Ruben and her husband Jason of Allendale NJ, granddaughter Alex Claycomb of Albuquerque, NM, granddaughter Stephanie Pitzalis and Francesco of Milan Italy; great grandchildren, Sophie and Lilly Zezula, and Jack Rubin; nephews Joel Heffron, James Eisberg, Mark and Lloyd Easton, Daniel Becker. The family will receive friends from 8:30am to 9:00am at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 10:30am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the home of George and Giovanna following the service at 1:00pm.
