Bernardo "Bernie" Romero

April 27, 1944 — December 2, 2020

On the morning of December 2nd, 2020, Bernie Romero entered into eternal life to join those he loved and missed which had gone before him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalio and Luisa (Gonzales) Romero; sister, Terry; brother, Antonio “Tony”; and his nephew, Diego Romero. He is survived by his five children, Bernie Jr; Carolina (Rudy); Gregorio (Catherine); Augustin (Kristin); and Felicia (Steven). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his friend and the mother of his children, Velma Wolfel; his brother, Rosalio (Dolores), and his sister, Grace Romero. Bernie was an open soul, perceived to be opinionated by some, but always transparent and true to the beliefs he was raised with. He was a man of humble needs; never searching for riches but grateful and content with what he had. Bernie was a farmer and a trucker by trade but his true passion in life was music. He was a gifted and talented musician, widely known for his guitar playing and singing voice. He was featured in two KNME-TV productions, Way Out There and Del Valle featuring his music and celebration of culture and art of the Southwest. He and his band performed at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Sante Fe, and The Chamizal Festival in El Paso, TX. He was featured in La Musiuca de Los Viejitos, Hispano Folk Music of the Rio Grande, as well as various local performances in his local hometown of Socorro. On any given weekend you could find Bernie playing at weddings, private parties, family gatherings, or at one of the local watering holes. Bernie’s voice was silenced when he suffered numerous health events and could no longer play. He however leaves behind the legacy of his music. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He lives on through his music. There will be no public services held for Bernie. To view information or leave a condolence, please visit www.danielsfuneral.com. Bernie's care has been entrusted to:
