Beth Hampton Root

Beth Hampton Root born May 14, 1924 in Albuquerque NM died August 18, 2014 in Albuquerque NM. Beth was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William F. Root, her parents Della and Floyd Hampton of Albuquerque, and her brother Robert Hampton of New York. Beth is survived by her son, Dr. Bradley Root and his wife Karen of Albuquerque; daughter Sue Mays and granddaughter Lauren Mays of Dallas TX. Beth received a BBA in 1947 from the University of New Mexico where she studied music and business. She was a loving mother and devoted wife, and served her church and her community throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. Beth and her husband Bill retired to Albuquerque where she served as an Elder and Moderator of the Board of Deacons for First Presbyterian Church; President of Albuquerque PEO Reciprocity; served on the Board of Albuquerque Guild of Santa Fe Opera; Docent for the Albuquerque Museum; Member of the Yucca Temple No. 74, Daughters of the Nile; the Albuquerque Knife and Fork Club and Sandia Presbyterian Church. Beth was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and Mortarboard Alumni. She taught piano lessons for many years, and was Founder and President of the Opera Goers of Bartlesville. Beth loved music, life, art, good food and lively conversation. She was an inspiration to many as she championed each day and never allowed the arthritis that crippled her body to impair her faith or injure her spirit. She greeted life with a smile and a ready sense of humor, and befriended all the lovely caregivers that gave so freely of their love and care in her later years. She will be deeply missed by her family and all of those whose lives she touched with her great spirit and her tender faith. Beth will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Bill in a graveside service Sunday August 24, 2014 at 2 pm at Fairview Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
