Betty Irene Franklin, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on November 22,2024, at the age of 90. Born on May 17, 1934, Betty lived a life full of passion, love, and many cherished memories.
Betty was a proud graduate of Albuquerque School. She dedicated her life to her family and was married to Harold DeWitt Franklin on June 27, 1952. Their union was a testament to love and partnership that lasted for decades until Harold's passing.
Known for her vibrant personality, Betty enjoyed an array of hobbies that brought her joy: dancing, fishing, cooking, sewing, and gardening. She embraced life fully, sharing her talents and creating lasting memories with those around her. Betty was also a devoted member of Lakewood Church, where she found community and support.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Debra Kay Powell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and her son, Donnie Wayne Franklin of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Betty's legacy continues through her grandchildren: DeAunna and Juanico Everyngham, David and Melanie Shapiro, Kevin Shapiro, LaAnna Arcement, Justin Franklin, Dawnell Tucker, and Julio Nevarez. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Steven and Connor Woods, Hailey Everingham, Greyson Shapiro, Myles Shapiro, Layla Arcement, London Arcement, Jackson Franklin, Luke Franklin, Addison Tucker, and Jake Tucker, as well as a great-great-grandmother to Xayden Everingham.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Crystal Ava Clarkson, her father, Jesse James Clarkson, her husband Harold DeWitt Franklin, and her daughter Diana Sue Shapiro.
In addition to her family, Betty is survived by her cherished pets: Jessie Joe, and Jade, who provided companionship and joy in her later years.
A funeral service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on December 3, 2024, at Sandia Memory Gardens in Albuquerque, New Mexico, beginning at 11:00 AM. Following the service, a time of fellowship and remembrance will take place from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at 1458 Peppoli Loop in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Betty Irene Franklin will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a wonderful mother and the best Granny ever!
