Betty Schilling

Schilling, Betty Alice (Kiner) 82, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Betty was born on March 4, 1931 in Greene County, IA, to Roscoe (Bud) and Ruby Kiner, both of whom preceded her in death. Betty married Robert J. Schilling on June 27, 1948, and together they had three children: Jeri Ann, Jo Ellen, and John Robert. They moved to New Mexico in 1960 and raised their family in several different communities around the state. Betty�s professional life included a variety of bookkeeping and professional banking positions throughout the state before retiring from the student financial aid office at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM. After her retirement Betty and Bob moved back to Albuquerque which served as home base for their many travel adventures to destinations including Europe, Panama Canal, Mexico, and Alaska. Betty was an avid reader who loved a good mystery and was famously fond of �cowboy movies.� The family cherishes memories of �Granee� rocking each grandchild while watching cowboy movies on TV. She also loved cooking, and baking cakes to accompany the Saturday night ice cream parties she hosted for her extended family. Betty was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Jeri Smith in 2008. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Robert; daughter Jo E. Schilling and partner Judy Polenske, of Edmonds, WA; son-in-law Matt Smith of Albuquerque; son John R. Schilling, and his wife Martha of Englewood, CO, and their children John E. Schilling II of Tucson, AZ; Rachel Schilling of Albuquerque; Emily Schilling and David Schilling of Englewood, CO, as well as many additional relatives and friends. Betty was comforted by Vista Care Hospice of Albuquerque, and the family has requested any memorial donations be directed to its charitable foundation: The Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 7801 Mesquite Bend Drive, Suite 105, Irving, TX 75063, or to the charity of your choice. Emails and cards are appreciated at the family�s home address. At Betty�s request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation will be provided by Daniel�s Funeral Home.
