SHAFFER- Betty Jane Shaffer, age 96, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  Betty was born August 13, 1919 in Canton, Ohio to Chandos Loree and Gladys Eulalu (Wadsworth) Bailey. Betty grew up in Canton where she finished high school, met and married John William Shaffer and reared her family. She was a homemaker and an active member at First Christian Church in Canton. In 1983, Betty, John and their son, Jack moved to Rio Rancho to be nearer their daughter, Glenda. During her years in New Mexico, Betty continued to hone her skills as a fine porcelain painter; a hobby that she had started while still in Ohio. For many years, she was very active with the NM Club of Porcelain Painters and held many offices within that organization, including serving as their president. During her years in NM, Betty was also active with the Rio Rancho First Baptist Church. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Evelyn Decker, brother-in-law, Web Decker, twin brothers, J Clark Bailey and Chandos L Bailey, sister-in-law, Bette Ann Bailey, her husband, John, son-in-law, Calvin D. Mowry and great granddaughter, Holly Mowry.   Betty is survived by her daughter, Glenda Mowry and son Jack W. Shaffer, both of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Curtis Mowry and wife Beth and their children, Gwen and Nate Mowry, all of Albuquerque, Craig Mowry and wife Leah, and Audra Dodson and husband Tim, and their children, Elijah and Evan Dodson, all of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Bailey of Canton, OH and many nieces and nephews.
