B.R. “Bill” Halsey, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, left this earth peacefully on March 31, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Ingram) Halsey; his sister, Lois Frances Halsey (Frank) Detweiler of Marion VA; his children, Teresa Ann (Bill) Weisenburger of Triangle VA, Bryan Rogers (Carol) Halsey of Marion VA, Philip Wayne (Cindy) Halsey of Keller TX, Warren Jackson (Beverly) Halsey of Valparaiso IN, and Laura Elizabeth Halsey of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandchildren, Breanne Halsey Weisenburger (Byron) Adkins of Phenix City AL, William David Weisenburger III of Kents Store VA, Rebekah Carol Halsey of Zanesville OH; Leah Elizabeth Halsey (Stephen) Horrigan of Danville IN; Benjamin Rogers Halsey of Indianapolis IN; Amy Elizabeth Halsey (Stephen) Simcox of Dallas TX; Shelby Lynn Halsey of Houston TX; Audrey Amelia Halsey of Valparaiso IN; and William Ellis Halsey of Valparaiso IN; and one great grandchild, Valerie Alice Adkins of Phenix City, AL. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Rogers Halsey and Ruby Edith (Reedy) Halsey, and his sister, Elizabeth Ann (Halsey) Hyland. Bill is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Rogers Halsey and Ruby Edith (Reedy) Halsey, and his sister, Elizabeth Ann (Halsey) Hyland.Bill was born and raised in Marion VA, where he met his wife, Mary Ann, in their high school years. He went on to attend Virginia Tech, graduated with an accounting degree, and started his 35-year career with US Steel in Pittsburgh in 1957. Throughout his career and promotions, Bill and his family also lived in Illinois, Indiana and Texas. Following his retirement in 1992, Bill and Mary Ann settled in Corrales, where they fully embraced their love of New Mexico and the Native American culture. They did this through serving as international visitor hosts, docents at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, life-long learning instructors, and other personal volunteer work with their Native American craftsmen/women, helping them run more effective business of their trades. Bill’s love of Native American arts led him to create Original American Arts - his own business buying, selling and trading his extensive collection. Bill will be remembered for many things: his devotion to his family; his story telling, quick wit and laughter; his loyalty to Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh Steelers football; and the enjoyment he got from visiting with family and friends. He was always ready, willing and able to use his experience and knowledge to help many of his friends. A private funeral service was held for Bill with his immediate family, and a memorial service is being planned for a future date, yet to be determined.
