Billy Z. Jones

Jones, Billy Z. Age 83, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013. He was born in Mountain Park, OK on September 8, 1930, to John Hardy Jones and Georgia Elena Hall Jones. Billy had 10 brothers and sisters. Billy left home at the age of 17 to join the Air Force. He served in Germany during the Berlin Airlift and was awarded a medal for Humane Action for his service. He became a Sergeant in the United States Air Force and served as an Intelligence Specialist at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. He met Dorothy H. Bragg in 1951 and they married in March 1952. They were together for 56 years. They had one child, Rebecca S. McCauley of Cliff, NM. Billy started out as a security officer at ACF in Albuquerque. He then worked at Dairy Specialty and later became the owner. He had many talents, carpenter, business owner, property manager. He built the Pronto Mart 7-11 in 1962. He and his wife operated this successful business for 31 years. he also owned Eddy's Hardware and E-Z Storage. He later bought and sold land. This became his "hobby". Even though he never graduated from high school, he became an entrepreneur. He was an expert marksman. he never lost his touch even after having a stroke hitting the bull's eye with his beloved "Judge". He also loved to play golf and fly his airplane in his earlier years. Billy lost his wife in January 2008. He later suffered a stroke. He always seemed to bounce back until he fractured his hip. He is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Becky) McCauley and partner James Keller of Cliff, NM; grandson Billy Ray McCauley and wife DaVonna also of Cliff, NM; granddaughter Deanna Hogue and boyfriend Jeremy Grimm of Avondale, AZ; great grandchildren Colton Lee Watkins and Aubrey Grace McCauley of Cliff, NM; one brother Olvis Jones and wife Joyce of Snyder, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Blanche Schnare of Kerrville, Texas and Jimmy Lou Jones of Lawton, Oklahoma. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews he enjoyed visiting with. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jones; father John H. Jones, mother Georgia E. Jones; sisters: Jeneal Riley, Margie Rogers, Leola Powell; brothers: Deverne Jones, Greely Jones, Leo Jones, Virgil Jones and LaVoy Jones. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, 10:00 am, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Strong-Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque.
