Bill T Luther, 86, of Mountainair, NM, passed away unexpectedly on November 21st, 2023. Bill was born on November 1st, 1937 in Mountainair, NM to Clyde and Ruth Luther. He was proceeded in death by his father, Clyde, mother, Ruth and wife of 48 years, Sue Luther. He is survived by one sister, Karen Bates (Jim) of Mayhill, NM, daughter Melody Connell (Wayne) of Gran Quivira, NM, daughter Billie Sue Luther of Pecos, NM. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Colvin Connell (Kimberly), Vanessa Connell, Matthew Connell (Kendra) and Britney Macias as well as his four great grandchildren, Darren, Gavin, Kyran and Clayton.
Bill was the most knowledgeable hardworking old school cowboy around. Despite having polio since he was 14, he had a heck of a life full of accomplishments. He didn’t let his polio diagnosis stop him from doing anything, what he set his mind to, he did.
He was a dedicated rancher for over 70 years. He was so proud of all the hard work, blood, sweat and tears that he was able to put into the ranch. It was a life long dream that he and Sue dreamt of, and he carried out the dream in honor of her for the last 17 years.
He was a truck driver and owned a successful trucking business for over 50 years. He helped build many roads throughout NM, he would still to this day point out all the roads while driving around the state.
He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Mountainair Fire Department in his younger days with his wife, Sue. He always had fond memories of going to the weekend picnics with Sue and their two daughters.
Recently, Bill dabbled in the horse racing business and was so proud of his horses and went to most every race. He was also a lifelong bluegrass music fan, he especially loved the fiddle. Music brought him a lot of joy.
Along the way, he met some amazing people. Some of who would later turn into the greatest of friends. There’s no doubt about it, he will be missed by many.
