Billy Ray McCown, 75, of Flora Vista, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009. Billy was born April 22, 1934i n Binger, Oklahoma to Harve Earl and Edith McCown. Billy served in the 101st Army Air Born Division, was a Mason, and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his father, Harve Earl McCown, his brother, Bobby Joe McCown, his sisters, Betty Lewis and Janice McCoy, and his niece, Leslie Ann Wood. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marguerite McCown; his mother, Edith Fisher of Aztec; his sons Bill (Dawn) Gaches of Farmington, and Roger Hill of Texarkana, TX; his daughter Christy Adney of Flora Vista; his five grandchildren, Lacy and Bill Adney of Flora Vista, Dustin and Justin Hill of AL, and Jodi Hill of Texarkana, AR; his brother Jerry (Jan) McCown of Durango, CO; his sisters Carmen Wood of Aztec, Judy (Fred) Wade of Bloomfield, and Donna Rowe of Katy, TX; his brother-in-law John Dee (Rose) Hill , of Cabot, AR; his sister-in-laws Lois Tyler of Dallas, TX, and Anne Chamber of Maryville, TN; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his oil patch friends. Billy, the 2nd of eight children, was raised in Wetumka, OK. He, along with his older brother Bobby Joe, helped his widowed mother care for his younger brothers and sisters when his father passed. Bobby, Billy's older brother, was working the oil boom in the San Juan Basin and asked Billy and the family to move to Aztec in 1954. Billy began his long oilfield career in the Four Corners area. Billy's job took him first to California then to oil fields all over the world. During his travels, he met and married Marguerite Gaches in 1966. Billy and Marguerite returned to the U.S. and settled in Flora Vista in 1978. Billy culminated his 55-year oil-field career consulting in the San Juan Basin until his 2008 retirement. Pallbearers are Gary Wood, Randy Wood, Matt Wood, Terry Burson, Randy Bauer, and Jeff Nicely. Billy is in the care of: Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home 103 E.
