Butch Stackpole

Butch Stackpole Age 62, passed away on May 27, 2014. Butch was born November 9, 1951 to the late James and Vera Stackpole. He was married to Johanna Boughton Stackpole. Butch is survived by his wife Johanna; and his three children, Katrina Marie, James Robert, and Joseph Noel Stackpole. During his life he attended the University of New Mexico where he received a Bachelors degree in Physical Education and a Master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Butch was published as an author and co-author in National Coaches Publications and Scientific Journals for his research on Anabolic Steroids and its effects on athletic performance. He was one of the founding fathers of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Butch was a 5 time New Mexico State Power Lifting Lightweight Division Champion from 1979 to 1984. Butch was also the New Mexico Power Lifter of the Year Recipient from 1981-1984. He held 22 New Mexico Power Lifting records from 1976 to 1985. Butch also produced and directed power lifting meets and strongman competitions. Butch was a coach for the Power Lifting Team A that broke over 100 power lifting records. He also renovated weight training facilities and implemented strength conditioning programs at Eldorado High from 1981 to 1982, Highland High from 1984 to 1986, and Rio Grande High from 1987 to 1988. Butch spent the last 23 years of his teaching career at Wilson Middle School teaching P.E. to thousands who attended the South East Heights School. He loved and enjoyed rearing his three supporting their various efforts, Katrina in Rodeo, James in Yafl football, and Joseph in middle school and high school basketball. Butch is also survived by his sister, Linda Stackpole Harris and her husband Steve of Chilhowie, VA; brother, Noel Stackpole; sister, Anna Guillen and husband Vince; brother, John Stackpole, all of Albuquerque, NM; niece, Kimberley Ortega Lee and her husband Brian of Phoenix, AZ. A Rosary will be recited at 6 o'clock pm on June 1, 2014 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 o'clock am on June 2, 2014 at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment to follow service at Sedillo Cemetery.
