Calvin L Kelly

November 20, 1997 — July 10, 2019

Calvin Lawrence Kelly was born to his loving parents, Paulette Barber and Jackie Kelly, on November 20, 1997 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born premature, weighing only four pounds, but he was delicately held by his family in stupendous happiness. As the second-to-last child born, Calvin grew up with his siblings, Louis Sullivan, Krishawn Sullivan, Jacqwenylnn Kelly, and Paul Kelly, who cherished him greatly. Unfortunately, his sister Sherri Kelly  past away shortly after her birth.  He was also held in adoration by his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, and a host of close-knit cousins. He was known by all, even at a very young age, for his loveable spirit.

As he grew up, Calvin resembled his dad and grandad in stature -- inheriting their slender frame. He was his father's twin! Calvin had an incredible bond with his brother, Paul, especially because they were so close in age. His oldest brother, Louis, was usually left to babysit the bunch when their parents were out, which encouraged Calvin to get into all kinds of innocent mischief as a toddler. His sisters, Jacqwenylnn and Krishawn, always welcomed him to play games with them, and enjoyed laughing with him as they dressed him up or styled his hair. Calvin often spent time with his cousins, Lorisha Moore and Devontay Hayes, in summer programs, church ministries, and pretty much any activity that would allow them to spend time outside. Calvin was dedicated to Christ at a very small age. He spent a considerable amount of time at Victory Outreach -- basking in God's glory. Calvin expressed his dedication to Christ through his gifts of music and dance. He was involved in his youth group, Flightz Squad, alongside family members and close friends. Calvin also participated in the step team, retreats, and other church activities. Later in life, he became a member of God’s House Church to continue to cultivate his personal relationship with Christ.

Calvin attended Inez Elementary School, Grant Middle School, and graduated from Sandia High School with outstanding grades. As a child, he dreamed about becoming a chef one day -- and was inspired by watching his mom cook in the kitchen. When he wasn’t focusing on his education or helping his mom out in the kitchen, he was fishing with the boys. It did not matter whether it was summer or fall, Calvin enjoyed the thrill of catching a fish! Calvin was particularly good with his hands, which is why his dad was happy to let him tag along to help him with different odd jobs. Eventually, he expressed to his dad that he wanted to make a career change -- and follow in his dad’s footsteps as a carpenter.

Calvin had a kiddish, but remarkable, smile that would make others feel like they were invited to partake in conversation with him at anytime. He had a very quiet demeanor. If you listened close enough, you could hear the gentleness in his soft, subtle voice. Calvin did not have an angry bone in his body, even when he found himself in tough situations. He always looked for a positive aspect in every situation. Anyone who graced his presence knew how special he was. Words cannot express how saddened we are to see him go. Although the love of this young man will never physically be felt again, we know that we will carry on his legacy forever. He will always be remembered by his smile -- and the love that he shared with his family, friends, and community during his short life.
