Williams, John (Jack) Carl

Capt. John (Jack) Carl Williams, 95 of Albuquerque, quietly passed away December 10, 2015 at his home at Manzano Del Sol, and joined his wife Peggy of over 60 years.

Jack is survived by his sons Larry, Gary, Andy, Eric, and daughter Deborah and 4 grand children Christine, Stephen, Kelly and Tyler. Jack also  leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews around the country.

Jack was born to Richard Williams and Susie Shimer in Marysville, PA, the youngest boy of 9 children.  Jack married Marguerite (Peggy) Swayne, a registered Nurse, on June 10, 1950, in Kennett Square, PA and were blessed with 5 children and 4 grandchildren.

Prior to joining the military, Jack attended Williamson Trade School in Media, PA and graduated with a certificate on masonry and carpentry.

Jack joined the military in the United States Air Force and began his pilot training in September 1943, until his honorable discharge after 23 years in August 1967. Jacks tours of duty took him around the world from flight training in Texas and becoming a first officer flying B-29, C-97, C-54, and DC-3 to P-61 Black Widows in campaigns in Japan, Guam, the Azores Islands and South Africa and served with distinction in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam receiving the Occupational Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Jack also received his BA Degree in Commerce from Penn State University and was a die hard Nittany Lion.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Jack re-entered government service with the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management and was assigned to open a new regional office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jack and Peggy were both active members of Asbury Methodist and St. John Methodist church in Albuquerque.  Jack was also deeply involved with the Ballut Abyad Shrine, Shrine's Children Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Storehouse food warehouse.

Jack's "Wanderlust" extended well beyond his military world travels. After retirement, Jack continued to travel by motor home all over the country attending Air Shows, camp outs, and spending many winter months with Peggy in the warmer climates in Arizona.

Above all Jack honored family and friends. Everyone who knew Jack,  knew him to be a kind and a trusted friend who believed in solidarity of family and the importance for doing right, being honest and responsible for ones self. He cherished family celebrations and always wanted to know what the kids and grand kids were up to. Jack maintained military, college and business friendships, some extending back over 60 years. Many in Jacks extended family, out through generations, credited Jack for keeping the family together and in contact through letters, emails and phone calls.

Jack will be laid to rest privately, with military honors, alongside his wife Peggy, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, December 18th at 10:30 am. Friends and family are also invited to a Memorial Service at the Manzano Del Sol Chapel, 5301 Roma NE, on Sunday December 20th at 10am.
