Carl Eugene Maitlen, 83, of Aztec, departed this world on Sunday, April 3, 2011. He was born February 12, 1928, in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Carl enlisted in the United States Army in 1946, where he served our great nation for two years. Upon fulfilling his duty to his country, he was joined in matrimony to Mary Allee, by whose side he would spend the entirety of his adult life.
Carl was the epitome of the hard-working American. Along side Mary, he managed his nearly 100-acre farm, while also employing his talents as a truck-driver in the oil and gas industry. Carl enjoyed the outdoors, spending much time hunting, fishing and camping, including the building of a cabin in Colorado in furtherance of these pursuits.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lilly; his brother, Cleo; and his sisters, Wanda and Linda.
Carl is survived by his wife, Mary, with whom he spent 63 years of loving marriage. He is also survived by his five children, Tommy, Larry, Brenda, Terrie, and Lester; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Lois, Jimmy, Ken, and Barbara; and a lasting legacy of all the many lives he touched.
