Carl Ohler, a longtime resident of the Cuba area, passed away on April 3, 2018 at the age of 73.
Carl joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 and served 3 tours in Vietnam, mostly aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Ranger. He was very patriotic, proud of his country and his military service.
Not long after returning home from the Navy, Carl became a police officer for Bernalillo County, which was the start of a 32-year career in law enforcement. During that time, he served in the City of Albuquerque, City of Las Vegas, NM, Town of Mountainair, Sandoval County, New Mexico Mounted Patrol, Village of Jemez Springs and Village of Cuba. When someone called, he never failed to respond.
Carl was happiest at his home in the Jemez Mountains, hunting, fishing, working with horses and restoring automobiles.
Carl is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy; son James of Los Lunas, NM; daughter Laura Silva of Rio Rancho, NM; son Jason and wife Stacie of Cuba; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Jeannette Isserman and Christine Long.
A memorial gathering is planned for April 22, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Sandoval County Fairgrounds in Cuba, NM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Service Dogs of New Mexico, 17 Bus Lane, Sandia Park, NM 87047, servicedogsnm@gmail.com.
