Carla J LaFave

Carla J. LaFave, age 81, passed away in Placitas, NM on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. She was born in Skowhegan, ME on July 14, 1938, to Alfred G. Trepanier and Lilla E. Hamilton.  She attended Skowhegan High School and later obtained her GED.

Carla went on to become a payroll administrator with GTE Sylvania Corporation where she met and married the love of her life Michael J. LaFave on September 5, 1969 in Lowell, MA.  Their love spanned over 50 wonderful years together.

Carla's hobbies included raising and showing Basset Hounds for over 30 years and she was also an AKC licensed judge for numerous dog shows.  Several of the New England dog clubs she participated in were: Pilgrim Basset Hound Club as President; Wachusett Dog Club as a member; Worcester County Dog Club as President; and the Basset Hound Club of America as a member.

Carla was a member of the Tramway Community Church and involved with her Women's Ministry group there as well.  One of her favorite Bible scriptures was Isaiah 40:31. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

She was preceded in death by her parents.  

Carla is survived by husband, Michael J. LaFave of Placitas, NM; son, Jack A. (Judith Ann) LaFave of Leominster, MA; and brother, Gene H. (Dianne) Trepanier of Hephzibah, GA.

A poem that aptly describes Carla and her family's sentiments about her is "Gone From My Sight" by Henry Van Dyke.

          I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for        the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
          I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to        mingle with each other.

          Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone." 

          Gone where?

          Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
          And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

          Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.

          And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

          And that is dying..."

A Memorial Service for Carla will be on October 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Tramway Community Church.  Committal will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Santa Fe National Cemetery.
   
In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Carla's honor to the Alzheimer's Association.
