Carlos Sesario Carrillo

Carlos Sesario Carrillo
On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Carlos S Carrillo, magnificent father of five children, passed away at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes B Carrillo. He is survived by his five children. Grandpa Carrillo was born on September 16, 1936. Proud Virgo and South Valley resident, he attended barber college in Los Angeles, CA and later became licensed in the states of California, Kansas, and, of course, New Mexico, while serving over 40 years with the railroad. With his extensive and skilled barbering knowledge, he volunteered for the elderly in hospice as a barber. His compassion stretched beyond that, as he was also a social worker for the EOB and helped the state of New Mexico. His passion for being of service for others out of the kindness of his own heart accompanied by his pride for being a South Valley resident led him to form the Zapata Club, an organization that raises money for the South Valley Youth, which is just the act of pure kindness and light that is needed in these trying times. In addition to that, he was a brave firefighter and helped form programs in the fire station. Further exemplifying his passion for New Mexico, he worked for the Albuquerque Dukes and The Pit. In his accomplished life, he also worked for Transamerica Insurance. While being a serious and dedicated worker for such meticulous jobs, he also was a member of the painters local union. He painted buses for the city of Albuquerque as well. This goes to prove that creativity and compassion really go hand in hand. Also a paragon of his artistic and creative abilities, he was a self taught guitarist, which, to me, is the most inspirational thing. While his barbering skills inspired my father and many other members of this family, I do believe Grandpa Carrillo’s contribution to me was his musical traits. As someone who advocates for people to encourage others to speak out and flourish in their goals, Grandpa Carrillo did just that. I was just writing an essay on my upbringings and connections to the South Valley for a college scholarship essay recently. I do not believe I have seen anyone actually display actions of pride for their heritage and beliefs like Grandpa Carrillo, and I now feel I have been blessed with the privilege of mentioning this inspiration in later essays as a form of remembering him in a beautiful, positive, long lasting light. Lastly, he was known as quite the comedian, and the oldest teenager in the South Valley, and even in death, that title will stand forever.
