MOYA- Carmen Aragon Moya, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 100, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Valencia, NM. on November 25, 1910 to Jose Maria de los Reyes Aragon and Leonides Orona Aragon. Known as “Carmelita” she is the youngest and sole survivor of five siblings; Crisologo; Esequiel; Jose Maria; Julian; and Francisquita; two half-brothers Bruno Francisco and Rafael Aragon. As a young girl, Carmen Catalina Aragon attended school in Peralta, NM. She, along with ten other classmates, graduated in 1930 as the first graduating class of the Salomon Luna High School. The former Carmen Aragon married Jose de la Santa Cruz Moya, son of Eduardo Moya and Francisquita Lucero, on January 2, 1931 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tomé, NM. Together Carmen and Santa Cruz raised four children: Frank; Guillermo, who died as an infant; Triny; and Lillie. After her husband Santa Cruz died on April 14, 1950 at the young age of 42, Carmen went back to school to get her teaching certificate from the University of Albuquerque on the Rio Grande. Mrs. Moya taught at St. Francis Xavier, San Jose, and San Felipe Catholic Schools. She worked Community outreach programs at the Martinez Community Center and Barelas Community Senior Center. She also taught ceramics and was on the Governing and Advisory Board for the Senior Citizen Affairs of Albuquerque. Carmen was preceded in death by her mother, Leonides Maldonado Orona, in 1935; her father, Jose Maria de los Reyes Aragon, in 1913; her husband, Santa Cruz Moya, in 1950; and her infant son, Guillermo, in 1934. Mrs. Carmen Aragon Moya is survived by her large and loving family which consists of her three children and their spouses; Frank A. Moya and his wife, Geri, of Texas; Triny E. Moya and his wife, Florence LeDoux Moya, of Albuquerque; and Lillie Martinez and her husband, Michael, of Albuquerque; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Albuquerque and recently of the Shrine of Saint Bernadette. A Prayer Vigil and Rosary will be recited at Garcia Mortuary in the Chapel of Angels on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Reciting of the Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.; Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Shrine of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd, NE, on Saturday, February, 5, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.; Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro, NE. The family is very grateful to Angelica, Liz and Kathy from Zia Hospice for the loving care given to our Mother in her last days. Carmen will be greatly missed by all her knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: David Moya, Steve Moya, Mark Moya, Carol Sandel, Michael Martinez, Jr., Chris Martinez, and her great-grandsons Richard and Michael Moya.
