Atherton, Carol Sue On January 25, 2014 at 12:30 Carol Sue Atherton, 65, passed away at Rust Presbyterian hospital in Albuquerque New Mexico. Carol was born on December 27, 1948 in Colorado Springs to Donald and Lyda Atherton. Carol fought a courageous 2 year battle with breast and lung cancer. While in remission from cancer she was overcome by pneumonia. Many years ago when she was 36 she was told she had breast cancer, she decided at that point not to be a victim but a fighter! She won that battle and went on to living. Carol was a wonderful person, first a daughter and loving sister. Later in life a beautiful mother to 3 children, 2 son's, and a daughter. Carol was loved by any of those who were lucky enough to cross her path. She was a free spirit who loved many things. Her family was her greatest love, her animals were like family, and treated like so. She often spent her summers in the yard. She loved to garden, and you could say she definitely had a green thumb. Carol had a personality that was bigger than herself. Anyone who knew her would say she would tell you how it is...she was a person who you always remember. Carol is survived by her mother, Lyda Cimino; her brother and sisters, Bruce Winter, Nancy Winter, Donna Dryer, and Betty and Chip Scott. Carols children. Her son, Donald Gheen and wife Cheryl Gheen, along with the grandchildren, Ashley, Derek, Jordan, Kyle. Her daughter, Amanda Borgersen and husband Jerry Borgersen and there son, Jerry (JJ) Borgersen. Carol will be dearly missed more and more as time goes on. She loved us all, and even though she's gone she will always live on in our hearts. She is gone...but will never be forgotten.
