Carol Ann Cook

March 11, 1934 — April 12, 2015

Carol Ann Jacques Cook
March 11, 1934 to April 12, 2015.

“Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.”

Carol Ann Jacques Cook passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 81. She is survived by her children, Terry Giggy and husband Hugh, Karen Cook Romero and husband Clarence, Patricia Martin and husband Matt and John Cook and wife Allyson. She had six grandchildren: Todd Giggy and wife Kristen, Patrick Giggy and wife Lyndsey, Kristin Meyer and husband Jesse, Seth Arellano, Jeremy Martin and Wilder Cook. There are 5 great-grand children: Kaylee and Logan Meyer, Santiago Arellano, and Maddox and Nash Giggy.Carol was the daughter of Ruby Seals Jacques Nunn of Umpire, Arkansas and Thomas Shell Jacques of Nashville, Arkansas. Her husband John Cook, her first and only true love predeceased her in 1986. John was in the military and Carol spent many years moving and setting up homes in various locales. She was the glue that held her family together. She was a truly selfless woman. She was smart, independent and kind. Carol spent the last years of her life at Paloma Landing Retirement Center. She was actively involved with her many friends. She was an avid wordsmith and worked crossword puzzles daily. A voracious reader, her home was filled with books. Playing Bridge with her friends brought her great joy. Quick with wit and song (so many songs) she brought joy to others. After being diagnosed with cancer and knowing her days were numbered she would try to ease the pain of those she loved and knew she would eventually leave behind with her passing. She quoted Tennyson:

“The old order changeth, yielding place to new,
And God fulfills himself in many ways,
Lest one good custom should corrupt the world.
Comfort thyself: what comfort is in me?
I have liv’d my life, and that which I have done
May He within himself make pure! but thou,
If thou shouldst never see my face again,
Pray for my soul. More things are wrought by prayer
Than this world dreams of. Wherefore, let thy voice
Rise like a fountain for me night and day.”

Carol was an amazing woman. She approached the world with wisdom and grace. With her passing, the world is a lesser place. Loved by many and missed by all who knew her; hearts are heavy. A celebration of her life will be held at Paloma Landing Retirement Center on April 23rd at 2:00 pm.
